Sayana Press

Before using this medication, read this card and the instruction leaflet inside the box.

Tell your doctor you’re using Sayana Press if you need other medicines or treatment.

Make sure you’ve told us about any allergies or medical conditions you have and any other medicines you take before you start this contraception.

If you use the contraception injection for a long time it can lead to reduced bone density. This can develop into osteoporosis.

When you’re using this contraception, it’s important to talk to your GP or sexual health clinic every 2 years to assess your risk of osteoporosis.

How to use Sayana Press

Watch this short video to remind yourself how to inject.

Do one injection every 13 weeks.

See the patient information leaflet for full step-by-step instructions on how to give yourself the injection.

If any liquid leaks out of the Sayana Press or you do not finish injecting, it might not work to prevent pregnancy. Get in touch with us if this happens to you.

When does Sayana Press start working?

I’m starting the injection after a break

If you start the injection during the first 5 days of your period, it will start working straight away and prevent pregnancy. If you inject on any other day of your cycle, use condoms or do not have sex for 7 days.

I’m already using the injection

As long as you give yourself a new injection every 13 weeks, it will be effective at preventing pregnancy.

Repeat prescription

If repeat prescriptions are available, we’ll text you to remind you to order 2 weeks before this contraception runs out.
